Pro-identity group continued aligned under the 30 political party alliance, including UCPN-Maoist and Padma Ratna Tuladhar led Indigenous Peoples National Movement, Nepal (IPsNMN) intensified picketing in the street on Thursday, the constitution deadline, demanding to write a Constitution forging the consensus. They also demanded the new constitution ensure identity-based federalism.
The Ruling Political parties—Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML made their efforts to end the contagious issues forming questionnaire committee and ultimately majority voting procedure. NC and UML who make the majority intend to restructure state based on the capability instead of identity-basis aiming to make 6/7 federal provinces, give as less rights of minority communities as possible.
Pro-identity groups including indigenous peoples, Dalits, Madhesis, Women and Muslims protested throughout the day right from 11 AM, the time schedule to start meeting in the CA till evening.
The protest also took place not merely in the Kathmandu valley alone but almost all districts throughout the country.
The protestors have made demands to institutionalize all the past agreements reached between the government and Indigenous peoples, Madhesis, Muslims, women in different dates and ensure their rights in the new constitution.
Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN), National Indigenous Women Federation (NIWF), Youth Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (YFIN) also staged protest at the last minute of the deadline demanding to ensure indigenous peoples rights in the new constitution.
